You Song (2013)
This is not a love song
"What if U and I were just letters
That'd be unfortunate,
We'd have to rob a fortune teller
But I swear I think I love you"
Fingers crossed in my pocket
Ok, that's a dead subject
You bring it up that's a zombie
You remind me uh...
My memory ain't what it used to be
She said she aint trippin
I know, because I moved my feet
And when she figure out that she been swindled
I'll be cleanin that lovebird shit off of my window
"I-I love you too"
Wayne's a savage. The more I tried to parse and analyze these lyrics, the more I realized this song should be mandatory listening for any potential girlfriend of his. He leaves no doubt as to what's on his mind and why he might behave in a way she would find disagreeable.
The first 4 lines are his response to being asked "Do you really love me?" The funny thing is that his initial reaction is to go into his wordplay mode, and talk about how fortune tellers are like bank tellers that can be robbed for some extra luck if there's not enough of it to make the relationship work. As to why it would be unfortunate, the best theory I have is that U and I are right next to each other on a keyboard, and Wayne doesn't like being that close to anyone (shoutout mnjaro). Then he says he swears he thinks he loves her. Rough.
AND he had his fingers crossed. Now that he gave you an answer, don't bring it up again. Zombies don't make good company. All he has to do is say who you remind him of and he knows you'll start tripping and leave. He knows this, and that's why he stopped himself, or moved his feet.
Ultimately, when they end up leaving, he just cleans up and moves on to the next. All this is going through his head when he has to play the game and say "I love you too." A lot to learn here. This is not a love song.
