Sky's The Limit (2007)
Ride
And you don't wanna fuck with a soulja
Use yo head or I take it off yo shoulda
Run up in yo house and shoot everyone that's sittin on the livin room sofa
(That's fucked up)
And you don't wanna fuck with a soulja
Use yo head or I take it off yo shoulda
Mail it to yo moms with a dozen of roses
(Now that's fucked up)
This was one of the first songs that helped me understand Wayne's imagination, and maybe even the essence of his approach to rap. The way he comments on his own lyrics (in brackets) lets you see that part of his motivation is to say the most outrageous shit, and he won't be satisfied until even he thinks it's fucked up.
What he says isn't always a description of what actually happened, but he always lets you know what could happen. Maybe I'm sheltered (or haven't been paying attention), but I can't think of another artist who paints anywhere near as violent and disturbing a picture as Wayne can. Sure, any rapper will always try and put forth an image of themselves as someone who shouldn't be fucked with, but I don't think anyone matches Wayne's cold blooded brutality when he lets his imagination run wild. And the craziest part is he makes you vibe with it.
